IRISH AFFAIRS.
AN EXTRAORDINARY LETTER. (Per s.s. Te Anau at the Bluff.) [TOOK ODE OWN COBBKSPOHDBNT.I [“ Tklegeaph ” Special.] London, Feb. 18. Archbishop Croke, of Cashel, has written * letter in which he advises Irishmen to no Abnger pay any taxes to the English GoHe argues that Irishmen will refusing to any longer contribute taxes which are applied to the feeing and feedihg'of a gang of needy and voracious lawyers ; to the purchase of : "bludgeons for policemen; to be used in the ' smashing of tne Irish people’s own skulls; : and for the support of a foreign (English) ! garrison. The publication of the letter has created an enormous agitation throughout the United Kingdom. If the advice of the Archbishop is adopted there is every appearance that the people of England ■will unanimously support the establishment of martial law in Ireland. Mr Parnell deprecates the advice of Archbishop Croke, knowing that if it is followed it will lead to civil war.
