It is glorious weather for the anniversary holiday, sunny, with a gentle breeze. The absence of wind will probably interfere with the yacht races. Only three boats started in the second and third-class yacht races. In the firstclass Handicap Race for the Challenge Cup and £35, five yachts entered, Mr Batkin’s laca, Mr Rawsou’s Girola, Mr Mills’ Zarifa, Mr Cabbel’s Florence, and Mr Chapman’s Thetis. A splendid start was effected. On reaching the Island the Isca had secured a considerable lead. The breeze freshened at noon. The Pet won the second class, and Iris the third class yacht race. In the big event, the first time round, the order was—lsca, Florence, Xarifa. The Isca was well ahead, and will probably win. The rowing races are confined to the local Clubs. [The Press Association, for some reason, has not seen fit to acquaint us with any further particulars as to the Wellington regatta. —Ed. X.T.]
