[Psb Pbsbs Association.] AUCKLAND, July 31. Warden Kenrick, of the Thames, i 8 dead. Ernest Moore, a respectable looking young man, has been arrested on the charge of uttering. The City Engineer started a number of the unemployed to-day on road works, selecting needy men with families. The I Government have offered a further advance to the unemployed on strike on the Mount Eden works, but they refused to accept it, desiring 4s 6d a day, as given to the southern relief works. It is intended to reduce the men working at Mount Eden from 43 6d to 4s a day. The Mangere Natives have not recommenced ploughing. Warden Kenrick, of the Thames, was seized with illness while on a visit to Auckland, and is now lying seriously ill at the Northern Club. He is not expected to recover. WELLINGTON, July 31. At a meeting of the Chamber of Commerce a resolution was carried—" That, in the opinion of this Chamber, it. is desirable that the Sharebrokers Act be prepared during the recess, and that copies of the same be furnished to the Chambers of Commerce and the sharebrokers of New Zealand previous to its introduction in the next session of Parliament, and that it be an instruction to the Council of this Chamber 1o advise the Government accordingly." Sureties for the release of the Maori prisoners were entered into to-day. The bondsmen for Te Whiti are Messrs WiPere M.H.R, and HanitaTe Awawa, and Messrs Puke To Ao, M.H.R., and Wiha Tanaki, are bondsmen for Titokowaru. Te Whiti exhibits great apathy over the effort made for his release, and at first obstinately refused to sign his recognisance. This afternoon, however, the persuasion of his friends had the desired effect,- and he appended his signature to the bond. The prisoners were shortly afterwards released. BLENHEIM, July 31. Mr S. J. Macalister, Chief Postmaster, and for twenty years in the service, retires to-day in order to enter business as an auctioneer. Mr Macalister is greatly respected, and his retirement is regretted. Mr Grubb, Assistant Inspector, takes temporary charge till a successor has been appointed. DUNEDIN, July 31. The body of John Haner, one of the pioneers in the Arrow district, was found in Lake Wakatipu. ' It was understood that he had gone to England. His death is a mystery.
