OUR VOLUNTEERS.
The public of Christchurch will, unless they spoil the proceedings themselves, have an opportunity of witnessing a very effective military display at Hagley Park on the Queen's Birthday. The whole of the North Canterbury Volunteer corps have been ordered to parade in the Park at 10.30 a.m., and it has been notified that a royal salute and a feu de joie will be fired. It is the intention of the Officer Commanding the District to also have a march past otx one condition —that the public will allow it to be done. At the review before Sir George Whitmore a few months back, the public spoiled the whole cf the proceedings by their injudicious curiosity. They crowded in on the flanks of the Companies, and hampered them in the march past, and when that was over, they fairly over-ran everything. It is to be hoped that the
performance will not be repeated on Mon day next. Should there be any indication of this being done, the force will be at one nmrohed off the ground. The review w?J be followed by a field day, and the Volutateers will be taken a short distance awaj from town for the purpose of practisirg a little work m the open. ;
