CENSUS RETURNS.
The following are the returns of population and dwellings in Christchurch City, the Boroughs of Sydenham, St Albans, Akaroa, Lyttelton, Ashburton, and the Town Districts of Linwood, Woolston, Southbridge and Tinwald. The return for Lyttelton includes the wharves and shipping, The number of dwellings (1) inhabited, (2) uninhabited and (3) building is also given:—

The Registrar-General hopes to have the approximate census returns from all the electoral districts ready in time to present to Parliament upon its assembling. The census returns from the Wairarapa were received to-day, and show an increase on the returns of 1881 of 3360 persons. Wellington city and the Wairarapa alone show an increase of about 10,000 during the last five years. The population of the North Wairarapa electoral district is 7768, and South Wairarapa electoral district 6081. i
