FIRES.

A two-roomed cottage at Darfield, belonging to Mr James M'Lachlan, was burned down on Monday night. It was insured in the Standard office for £SO. The cause of che fire is not known. It was insured in the South British for £l5O, and Victoria for £IOO. It appeared that when Mrs Hall, the owner, made a proposal for a second policy she did not disclose the existence of the first, and did not give the first notice of the additional insurance.
