THE ISLAND STEAM SERVICE, The new steam service between this Colony and the South Sea Islands (under subsidy from the New Government), begins next month, the vessel leaving Lyttelton about June 5, and at intervals ' of every two mouths thereafter. The Janet Nioool, the steamer to be employed, is iu all respects a suitable oue, being nearly 1000 tons register, and for the present will no doubt be found far ahead of requirements. Her spirited owners, Messrs Donald and Bdenborough, of Auckland, are looking forward with confidence, however, to the future development of this trade. The vessel has superior accommodation for both first and second-class pirn--aengers, and it is anticipated that the round voyage .from New Zealand to the Islands and lock will become a favourite trip before long. A large trade already exists between Auckland and these islands, .and it is to be hoped that the southern ports will jioon participate.
