SCHOOL COMMITTEES .

SOUTH BAKAIA. Tim usual monthly meeting was held on Monday evening; present —Slirure Hardy (in the chair), iiaslctt, Fletcher. Broadbent, and Oxley. The master repeated a bettor attendance, although the school accommodation was insufficient. Averages for lost month, 130 6; last week. I4CT9. Number on roll, 18G. Some children still do not attend. Repairs are required to the gymnastic apparatus and the pump. Tbo Chairman stated that he had made enquiries, and explained the reason why certain children did not attend. The master was instructed to write to the Drill Inspector re gymnasium, and Mr Broad bent was requested to see to the pump. It was resolved that the Chairman should write to the Central Board* and ask for considerable additions to the present school, or a side school. It was decided to dose the school for Christmas holidays on Dec. 24, and re-open on Wednesday, Jan. 21, on which date the children will have a Eicnic, when prizes for running, Ac., will o given. Inspector Edge's report was then considered- One portion stated that the accommodation afforded in this school was certainly the meet inconvenient of any school in his district, the greater portion of the floor room being taken up with desks, forms, Ac. The organisation, discipline, and order were good. In most cases the exercise books were dean and carefully written. The result of examination was as follows —Presented, 00; passed. 63; percentage of success, "0. Percentage of roll number: Presented, S2; below Standard L, 60. Percentage passed. 70. The report was considered satisfactory, taking into consideration the bad school accommodation and the irregular attendance of some of the children. A vote of thanks was passed to all the teachers, for the pains they had taken. Accounts to the amount of jKI7 19s 8d were passed for payment, and the meeting adjourned. . CUST. The usual meeting of the Cust School Committee took place on Monday evening; S resent—The Rev M’Callum (Chairman), learnt Jones, Tallat. Hassall and Crysell. The master's monthly report was read, and considered satisfactory. A state of accounts made by the Chairman, showed a balance to credit of over JEK Proposed by Mr llasnU, seconded by Mr Crysell. and carried—That subscription lists be made out and given to each member of the Committee, with a view to raising funds to procure prize* for the school children, and that the sum of £7 out of the balance in hand be voted for that purpose. Some necessary repairs were ordered to be done to the school furniture*, alter which it was resolved to hold a special tm* ting on the 15th, for the purpose of receiving lists and making further arrangements re the purchase of book*.
