PIGEON BAY.
[SBOSI OUR OWS COKBESPONDBNT.] The annual public meeting in connection with' the Pigeon Bay Library was held ©it June 21. The attendance of the public was small. A 3 a rule very little interest is taken in the Bays in any meeting. The Committee have been endeavouring during the past year to secure a site on whioh to build a new library. The Lyttelton Harbour Board have given them permission to erect a building on tho foreshore, opposite Kay's GuUy road. The building is to be 20ft by 14ft, and ia estimated to .cost£loo/ Out of a Committee of nine the following officers were re-elected % —Messrs M'Cullough, Pitcaithly, and Litton, to bo Chairman, Secretary, and Treasurer respect* ively. The election of new Koad Board mem» bers baa taken place at last. There wore six candidates nominated for tho five seats, The members returned were Measis Paton, Lyall, T. 0. Hay, Goodwin and Kay. The election was conducted by open voting, After tho election, tho County Council were handled rather roughly. The people here wish to have all rates rai«od locally refunded to them. If the Council fail to accede to their request, then steps will bo taken to have tho Council done away with altogether. Speaking seriously, the County Council seems unable to conduct business. They diiisolved this Boad Board in April, and, although a now Board is now elected, there is no knowing when tho first mooting may take place. MrM. M'Kny met with a severe accident the ether day. On going over a fonce he fell, receiving such injuries as necessitated his sending for Dr Singleton, Mr Wilson, in assisting to remove a house, also had the misfortune to get the top of one at his ißgers chopped off.
