STANMORE ELECTORATE.
TO THE EDITOR. -rn, —"We have surely begun early ecoHgb. this time. Your correspondent " .Vcanmore Elector," in yours of this niornii:.-. seems to be ashamed to give his name, amnot surprised at after the acV ■■■■ /ivludgement he makes in saying that he v .? induced to vote for Pilliet at the 1:..r election by old Clephane. Now, Mr Editor, the last correspondent I replied to in your columns had a great deal too much self-esteem; this one is much too low in th.it faculty. I would recommend him to sv.idy the self-reliant policy. I understand th.-'t before a person is placed on the ek-ctoral roll he must be a certain age, and at that he is supposed to be respon-feii.-i.j for his own conduct, or, at any rate, 1 •■ should be out of leading strings, ai.i able to judge for himself in sv;<;h matters, and must at any rate be oh! enough not to be running every minute winning and moaning to his old grandmother about some big boy leading him into mischief. But while we- must all ivgret being so much deceived by Mr Ml jot, we should learn to lay the blame on th'i right shoulders, and, Mr Editor, you v. ; U remember that as soon as he was foiind out, I lost no time in exposing him, f.".<! carried resolutions in each of the three ccjitrea of population to the following eii'i.-et:—"That Mr Pilliet was unfit to represent any constituency in New Zealand." If your correspondent is a Liberal avA gets one to stand for Stanmore, even if selected by my " old friend Sir George," I will vote with him. Something is said about Mr Hosking and myself. If that rehues to my action in reducing the expendituv: of the Drainage Board, I am willing to leave that to the ratepayers of HeathcAe, and if they are not satisfied with my action in that matter they can give me th« kisk. —I am, &c, EOBERT CLEPHANE.
