LYTTELTON BOROUGH COUNCIL .

This body held their fortnightly meeting in the Council Chamber at 7.30 p.m. on Monday ; Mayor, and Councillors Chalmers, Stinson, Garforth, Merson, Dimond and Allwright. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed, and the receipts since last meeting were reported as £11714s lOd. Leave of absence was applied for and granted to Councillors M’Donald and Eeed, CORRESPONDENCE. Be tbe transfer of a 4ft strip of land on Dudley road, a communication was received from the Borough Solicitor, stating that a mistake had been made in the survey. To meet -ihe difficulty, it was proposed to transfer the land,to the parties. Most of the sections referred to were at the back of Joycetown, and the plan of these was therefore incorrect. It was decided to have the land retransferred to the parties concerned. The Mayor mentioned that the Borough Solicitor had explained the cause of their letter not being sooner answered by him. Plans were produced of a store 110 ft by 60ft, proposed to be erected at Officers’ Point by Messrs Dalgety and Co., agents for the Shaw, Savill and Albion Company. These were inspected and referred to the Estates Committee, with power to act. FINANCE. Accounts, to the amount of £153 6s 4d, were passed for payment. Councillor Eeed here took his seat. The annual balance-sheet and burgess list, 1884-5, were put in. With regard to the former a special meeting, to take place on Thursday, May 8, was decided upon. The accounts will then be gone into. The burgess list was duly signed. The Bank account was, in answer to Councillor Allwright, stated to be about £BOO overdrawn. The Mayor remarked that this, was but slightly in excess of the usual amount at this period of the financial year. MISCELLANEOUS. The Foreman of Works’ report was read, and the matter of purchasing oats was left in the hands of the Works Committee, there being but one tender for tbe supply of this grain. At the request of Councillor Allwright the Works Committee were ordered to report on the slippery state of the steep asphalt sidewalks in the town. It was moved by Councillor Stinson, and seconded by Councillor Dimond —“That the railway authorities be communicated with respecting a right-of-way past the Grain Agency Company’s shed to the Council’s water frontage.” After some strong remarks on this subject the motion was carried, Tbe meeting then adjourned.
