ROAD BOARDS.

AVON. The ordinary meeting of this Board was held on Monday, April 28; present— Messrs Dunlop (Chairman), Philpott, Wray, and Jackson.—Mr Eeeve interviewed the Board, requesting a progress payment on account of forming the Horseshoe Lake road. —The Clerk was directed to make further enquiries as to the control of the drain at Belfast.—A petition was received from the residents in the neighbourhood of Norman’s lane, requesting that a gas lamp might be placed at the junction of the lane and the Papanui road. A similar petition was received from some residents -in Papanui, requesting that gas lamps might be erected at the junction of Bligh’s and Papanui roads, and at the junction of the Harewood and North roads. It was decided to leave the matter for the consideration of the incoming Board.—The following correspondence was received: —From the Eiccarton Eoad Board, stating that a deputation of that Board would meet the representatives of this Board at the Drainage Board office, on Tuesday, April 29, for the purpose of coming to some arrangement as to the boundaries of the rural Avon in the Drainage District. It was decided that the Chairman and Mr Philpott should attend.—From Mr O. Wansey, stating that the opening of the Elver road was unnecessary.—Prom Messrs Joynt and Adams, re transfer from Turner’s Trustees to the Board. —From Mr E. Blake and others, requesting that the Kaputone creek be cleaned out.—The Clerk was directed to take the necessary steps to have the work done.—Prom the Assistant E ail way Engineer, stating that there are 1000 yards of broken metal for sale at the Addington yards.—Tenders for a supply of shingle, to be delivered on the Papanui road, were opened, when that of Mr J. Chambers was accepted for 250 yards.—The Clerk was directed to advertise the public meeting of ratepayers to be held on Tuesday, the Gth May.—Accounts, amounting to i;G4 Is 4d, were passed for payment. —The Board then resolved itself into a Board of Health, and directed the Inspector to visit Belfast, and where necessary to take legal action for the prevention of nuisances.
