Welcome rain has fallen in many parts of the country not hitherto reached, and there is a strong prospect that the drought •will soon cease. At Bega over eight inches fell Li less than two days. The continued obstruction of Mr A. G. Taylor, member for Mudgee, has led to his suspension for a week under the new cloture rules, recently brought into operation. Mr Taylor was first named by the Chairman of Committees, and, continuing his obstruction, was named by the Speaker. He at fii'3t persisted in remaining in the Chamber, and when ordered to withdraw, returned by crawling under the bar, which had "been specially lowered. He was then removed by the Sergeant-at-Arnis. Mr Taylor has threatened an action against the Speaker, Chairman, Committees, and Sergeant-at-Arms. Mr M'Elhone is engaged in the Gundagai electorate on behalf of Mr W. J. Watson, whose cause he is scarcely assisting, as at Cootamundra Mr M'Ellione was hooted.
Mr W. M. Alderson, M.L.C., died yesterday. The Chamber of Commerce has passed a resolution urging upon Government to resume the water frontages* of A Sydney Harbour, from Darling Harbour to Circular Quay, and the water frontages at the Port of* Newcastle and places where they are not in the hands of harbour trusts.
The stakes won at the Autumn Eaee Meetinc, amounting to £SI24, have been paid over. Mr W. E. Hall, with £1498, and the Hon J. White, .£lll2, were the highest winners. Bishop Barry intends improving the Cathedral. The collections at his enthronement will be devoted to the erection of a new reredos, at a cost of not less than £SOO. - ' QUEENSLAND. The barque Lanarkshire, from Mourilyou Harbour to Lyttelton, in ballast, went ashore at Flinder's Passage, out got off uninjured. General satisfaction is expressed at the result of the Courier prosecution. VICTORIA. The markets hare leased for over £3OOO more than last year. . At the annual commemoration of the University, the under-graduates were more than usually silly in interruptions. The first of the B.A.'s to be presented was Miss Lyora Amelia Harris. She was greeted with " She's a jolly good fellow."
