IN introducing to public notice ;this beautiful structure, which is admitted by all visitors who have inspected it to be the premier hotel of the Australasian Colonies, the Proprietors beg to draw the attention of visitors and residents to some of the advantages it will offer. Being of fireproof construction, with simple and effective means of escape' from every floor by the exterior balconies and circular iron stairease, all the upper floors are made practically as safe as the ground one. Each floor is supplied with a separate fire service, made to our order by Messrs Shaudnnd Masen, of Loudon. No modem public building can rank as first-class unless great attention be paid to these particulars. This hotel is insured for_ 60 per cent lower premium than any other hotel in the Colony. It has a central and open position, facing Custom House square; charming views are obtainable of the harbour, Peninsula, and ocean from the upper floors j it is situated in the centre of the tramway systems, and at a convenient distance from the railway station. It is commodious enough to afford all those comforts and conveniences that are to he found in the largest modem hotel establishments, such as efficient office administration, which will he arranged on the American plan; a beautiful vestibule, passenger elevator, sample rooms, large private reading and smoking room, a guests’ draw-ing-room for ladies and gentlemen, avoiding the necessity of private parlours; suites of rooms with private baths; private bath and toilet accommodation solely for ladies; a ladies’ private entrance and reception room a hairdressing establishment, laundry, &c. The sanitary appliances, which are of the most perfect description, were imjiorted specially for the building, and to avoid faulty fitting and to render the introduction of sewer gas impossible, the plumbing has not been done by contract, but with the greatest care by Messrs Anderson and Morrison, who were under instructions to execute all this work on the plans recommended by the London Sanitary Commissioners. The basement drainage is perfect, and the whole section is concreted and cemented; whilst there is also an abundance of light and ventilation in every part. Thus the whole building cannot ho otherwise than healthy and agreeable. It will be newly and elegantly furnished throughout. Special attention will be paid to tho bedding; woven wire spring mattresses only will be used. Notwithstanding all those advantages, the tariff will he no higher than that of other first-class hotels. This hotel is confidently presented to the public as the leading one of the Colony. 2880 289 J. & J. WATSON, Proprietors. Criterion hotel, DUNEDIN, AV. H, HAYDON, Proprietor.
