STANMORE ELECTORATE.

TO THE EDITOB. Sib, —Mr E. Clephane, in denying the rumour that he is likely to be a candidate for the representation of Stanmore in Parliament, gives such an involved reason for declining to stand that really I must ask for a little more light on the point. He says he has never thought of standing himself, and would rather that a candidate be selected who would be “ a credit, rather than a disgrace” to the constituency. Well I never! Only to think of Mr Clephane looking upon himself as “ a disgrace ” to the Stanmore electorate, and desiring the electors to select a candidate who will he a credit to them ! lam quite prepared to confess that I do not think Mr Clephane would he a credit to Stanmore as its Parliamentary representative ; but, really, he is the last man in the world whom I should have expected to have regarded himself in the light of a disgrace. —I am, &c., EEFOEMEE.
