PARLIAMENT OUT OF SESSION.
MR T. BRACKEN AT DUNEDIN. [Per Press Association.] DUNEDIN, April 23. Mr Thomas Bracketi, M.LI.R. for Dunlin Central, addressed a meeting of his constituents hut night. Tho hall was crowded. The Mayor was in tho chair. Mr Bracken dealt principally with decentralisation. strongly favouring Messrs Maeamlrew and Montgomery’s platform. He was accorded a unanimous vote of thanks and confidence. fVEOJI OV K OWN CORRESPONDENT.] There were no points of importance in Mr Bracken's sjhvoli. The principal point mised was the necessity of adopting a scheme of decentralisation. Referring to the indebtedness of the Colony and tho talk about it being bankrupt, he quoted statistics to prove that, though largely indebted, New Zealand was in consequence of her productiveness better able to pay off her debt than any of the Australian Colonies. He was in favour of immigration, but thought Government should make the country fit for an increase of population by constructing railways. Government should never have reduced the grain tariff, and would not have done so had it not been for the persuasiveness of several Canterbury members who promised them their support. Major Atkinson addresses a meeting tomorrow evening, and Mr Fish will address his constituents on Monday next.
