ST ALBANS BOROUGH COUNCIL.
A meeting of the St Albans Borough Council was hold last night, at 7.30 pm.; present—Hid Worship the Mayor (in the ohair), Councillors BUkieton, Turner, Mann, Bountree, Smith, Bull, and Diokinson. The Clerk reported that he had seen Mr Harper, with reference to May's road, section 243 r, and that gentleman wa> of the opinion that the resident* were not liable for its maintenance. The Olerk also stated that he had given notice to Captain Millton that the Council required his fence, which projeoted two links OTer the foot-path, to be removed back to tho proper boundary, A petition, from Mr Oliver Gullick and thirty other residents and property-holders in and adjoining the road known as Hill's Boad, for the construction of a footpath on tho western side of Hill's Boad, was laid on the table. Befcrred to the Works Committee to report. Councillor Smith a»ked if, in the event of the owners of property in Bill's Boad being willing to give land for the purpose of widening the road, tho Council would agreo to erect the fenoing. The road was in a very bad state, and some of them woutd give the necessary land. Councillor Smith was instructed to report on it at the next meeting. The report of the Finanoe Oommitteo was read and adopted. It showed that the receipts since the last meeting had been £269 10a 6d, and the expenditure £ll3 6s 4d. The Clerk wail instructed to reply to the Waimate Borou«h Council's letter re Municipal Corporations Act, to the effect that the Government had no reserves in the Borough, and it was exceedingly doubtful if any could bo obtained.
Mr Campbell waited on the Council, and stated that he had not reosived his assessment, with 10 per cent added on to it, till 6.30 p.m. on Feb- 15—six and a-half hours too late to appeal, which he wanted to do. Ho wished to know if the Oounoil would refund him the money. Tho Clerk, in explanation, said that tho delay arose out of! Mr Campbell changing his plaoe of reoidenoe. The Council agreed to consider his-application. The Council then adjourned till the first Monday in April,
