ROAD BOARDS.

HBATHOOm The above Board met on Friday last, in the Board room, Ferry road, at 10 a.m.; present —Messrs F. Jones (Chairman), B. J, T. Ford, and B. Brown.—Apologies were reoeived for the absence of Messrs Monck and Attwood,— The Clerk was instructed to make enquiries as to the lowering of the Ferry road and other matters; also, to give Messrs Loughnan and Oharleswerth’e trustees notice that the Board intend to fill in the ditch by side of the road. —The following persons interviewed the Board Mr B. Fisher, relative to forming Biver road. It was resolved to call for fresh tenders in accordance with his suggestion, if he would pay the difference in cost. This Mr Fisher agreed to.—Mr J. 8. P. Clarke, relative to widening Wilson’s road. —Mr W. Hawker, relative to widening Cemetery road. Deferred for a full Board.—The Clerk reported the receipts to be £22 10s.—The following correspondence was road and dealt with From Charitable Aid Board, forwarding statement. Eeceived. From Messrs Harper and Co., re cutting of fence on the Oaks property. The Clerk to reply and see them on the subject.—From Mr F. W. Henley, re Ashbourne place. To be attended to.—From Mr G. L. Lee, asking tot use of office to take election of Licensing Commissioners. Granted.—From Ur A. Cuff, asking permission to ereot fence opposite his gateway. Granted.—From Mr E. MUdren, re penalty for non-oompletion of contract according to time. Deferred for a full Board.—lt was. decided to call for fresh tenders for the Bridle Path and Slaughterhouse and Canal Beserve roads.—After passing accounts for £143 12s sd, the Board adjourned.

ASHLEY. The usual monthly mee’ing of this Board was held at the Boad Board office, Ashley, on Thursday last; present—Messrs Hicholls (Chairman), Cunningham, Croft, and Dick.— Mr Nicholls having resigned the office of Chairman, Mr J. A. Cunningham was voted to the chair.—The Hon E. Bichardson waited on the Board in reference to the bridge over Deep Creek, on the road to Glentui sawmill, requesting the Board to take steps to get the bridge put in repair, as he was unable to let the sawmill until the bridge was safe for traffic. The Chairman explained to Mr Bichardson that a large sum of money had been spent during the last year on this line of road, and solely for one private patty, and that the Board did not feel disposed to expend more money on it unless there was a prospect of the sawmill being at work. Mr Bichardson assured the Board that he was in treaty with several parties with the view of letting the sawmill, and that he expected it would be at work at an early date. After some conversation between Mr Bichardson and the Board, it was decided that the Clerk make a minute inspection of the bridge, to see if itcould be repaired so sa to carry ordinary traffic, and report to next meeting of Board. —Mr Bichardson also called the attention of the Board to the dangerous state of two culverts on the line of road beyond the sawmill ; and that the formation of the Bald Hills road be extended as far as the scrub yards. Clerk to report.— It was resolved that Mr Maxwell, general manager of railways, be written, to, urging the necessity of placing some competent person in charge permanently at Ashley railway station, as great inconvenience is felt by the general public with the present arrangement.—The Clerk's report was read and considered, and a number of works authorised to be done.—Some works previously authorised were ordered to be advertised for next meeting of Board; also applications for lease of recreation reserve.—Cottage for poundkeeper to be considered at a full meeting of Board.—Clerk instructed to take the necessary steps in accordance with the Public Works Act to complete closed road lines.—Mr S. H. Brown waited on the Board re read to Okuku from Hayland. Mr Brown was informed what the Board proposed to do in the matter. Mr Brown also asked that a part of 80. 2 road, from forming done on to his gateway, be formed, some manuka scrub to be cleared, and about five chains of swampy part of road formed at base of Bullock Hill. To be considered at a full meeting of Board.—Accounts to the amount of £lO5 Is 7d were passed for payment, and the Board adjourned.
