ROAD BOARDS.

SOUTH BAKAIA. The regular monthly meeting of the above Board was held on Thursday, Feb. 2 j present —Messrs C. N. Maokie (Chairman), D. G. Holmes, W/L. Allan, and L. White. —The Clerk’s report was read and received.—The Chairman reported that he had not written to the law officers of the Crown, as he had not yet received the opinion of the Christohnroh solicitors. The Clerk reported that he had forwarded a copy of the resolution to the Board’s solicitors, Messrs Holmes and Longhrey, but had as yet received no reply from those gentlemen.—On the motion of Mr Holmes, seconded by Mr White, it was carried —“ That the necessary steps be taken in accordance with the Encouragement of Plantations Act, to secure to the Board the grant -of land due in consideration of the 76 acres of plantations belonging to it.”—lt was resolved —"That the Board’s solicitors be instructed to snugs with Mr Ouddon for fencing.” The Clerk was instructed to write to them on the subject.— Oorrespondenoe was read:—From the Mount Hutt Road Board, enclosing account for breaking stones on the boundary road and preparing plans for the storm-water scheme, being half coat in each instance. It was resolved that the accounts be paid, and that the Board’s attention foe drawn to the fact that all works on boundary roads should he arranged for by both Boards.—The Chairman reported that he had written to the Government with reference to forming a registration district for births, deaths, and marriages, at South Bakaia, said district to comprise the South Rakaia and Mount Hutt Boad Districts. He had received a reply from the Government that they would proclaim the district, and requesting the Chairman to confer with Messrs Wason, Wright, and Ward, re the boundaries of the district. — The Board expressed their approval of the action of the Chairman. —From the Bank of New Zealand, Bakaia, stating that the £7OOO fixed deposit would fall due shortly. On the motion of Mr Holmes, seconded by Mr Allan, it was resolved —“ That that amount be r e-deposited for 12 months .’’—Moved by Mr White, and seconded by Mr Allan—" That the accounts for advertising a general meeting of ratepayers at the Tewn Hall some time ago, with reference to the land fund, be paid by the Board, as the question then discussed was one that materially affected the interests of the ratepayers. Carried. — Accounts amounting to £2ll 8s lid were submitted and passed for payment, and the Board adjourned.
