Mr Archibald M'Arthur, said to be the oldest man in Scotland, died lately at Dunnoon. He was born on Sept 6, 1877, and was thus in his 106th year. For many years he carried on evangelistic work among the Oaelio population. At Pittsburg, United Btates, on Not. 26, Keifer, Steifel and Oo.'s tannery caught fire in the finishing department, and was soon in ruins. The loss is estimated at £25,000; insurance, £15,000. It is believed to hate been the work of an incendiary. The tannery has been twice burned in a year. There are altogether in the world 6,568,000 Jews, of which number 5,500,000 are in Europe, 240,008 in Asia, 500,000 in Af nca, 308,000 in America, and 20,000 in Auitralia. Taking the European countries, by far the largeit number of Jews in proportion to the population are in Boumama, where the average is 7*44 per 100 inhabitants. Russia comes next with 8'57 per 100 inhabitants, while Germany has 1-22, Great Britain 020, and Portugal only 0-04. A party of soldiers in Kildare, Ireland, were returning to camp in an omnibus, which broke down. A number demanded baok their fares, and were about committing violence on the driver, when a bystander interposed and pointed out the unreasonableness of their conduct. Seven of them turned on him, and, throwing him on the ground, kicked him to death and then ran away.

On Nov. 10 Mrs Caroline Forsyth and her husband, Colonel Jacob Forsyth, signed a warrantee deed on an 80tO-aore traot of land owned by them, located in Sheffield, Lake County, U.S. Colonel Forsyth receives £200,000 for his property, of which £70,000 in cash was paid down. He made hw deed to William W. Green, of New Jersey, who immediately gave a warrantee deed to,the Satt Chicago Improvement Company, the •onsideration being £600,000.
