A Dresden engineer proposes as a good lubricant for shafts, a substanoe formed by mixing the whites of eggs with the finest graphite powder, until of the consistency of firm dough. This is kept in boiling water until the whole is brought to a stage of coagulation, and the mass is then reduoed to powder. All the vessels of the Dundee fleet reoently returned from the fishing stations. Nine ships were employed at Greenland seal fishing, and scoured among them nearly 200 tuns of oil, being a decrease, as compared with last year, of about 800 tuns of oil. Six ships were engaged at Newfoundland, and got about 18,000 tuns of oil, being an increase on the previous year of 1100 tuns of oil. The total value of this year's seal fishing is £96,000, an inorease of £43,000 on the result of last year. Eleven steamers were engaged at the whale fishing, and brought baok 600 tuns of oil and 24 tons of bone. The value of the whaling voyage h £35,000, and of sealing and whaling together £131,000, or a total inorease on the results of last ye« of about £16,000.
