Fbom Shadings op Isstbumbnts at thk Oppicb op this Joubnal. The readings aro taken at noon each day. The thermometer column shows tho highest and lowest temperature (IN bhade) during the preceding 24 hours. In connection with the oarometric readings—B signifies rising, F falling, 8 stationary.
As compared with the readings of yesterday morning, there has been a general barometric rise, excepting at the Bluff. The advance, however, has in no cose been great; and at the Bealey the wind is once more from the north-west, though it is very light. There is a fresh north-west wind at the Bluff; north at Dunedin; north-east at Oamaru and Christchnrch; -south-weßt at Hokitika. Weather:—Overoaßt, with passing showers at the Bluff; blue sky, with clouds, at Dunedin, Oamaru, and Hokitika; blue sky at Christohurch and at the Bealey. A considerable sea on at Hokitika; smooth on the Bast Coast.
The rainfall recorded at Chertsey for the month of January amounted to 370 inches.
