CRICKET.

THE ENGLISHMEN IN NEW ZEALAND. [Pbb Pbhsb Association;] AUCKLAND, Feb. 2. The All-England matoh commenced to-day. Two thousand people were present. Captain Lambert umpired for Auoiland, and Lillywhite for the Englishmen. Bobinson declined the captaincy of the Auoiland team and Mumford was elected captain. It was after one before 'play commenced, the lawnroller being used to the laab moment. A heavy rain fell on the previous night, but a stiff southerly wind had dried the turf. Shaw lost the toss and Mumford went to the wickets with Testro, facing Shaw and Barlow. The first over was too much for Mumford, Shaw howling him. O'Brien filled the vacancy, but retired with a duck's egg. Testro attempting a difficult run was grandly thrown out by Ulyett. Yatos went in and after some careful play a shooter from Shaw was too much for Cox, and he retired amid cheers, Arneil filling the vaoanoy. After some pretty play, Arneil put a ball from Barlow into Midwinter's hands, at mid - off. Peafce was suffering from dysentery, and Sing fielded for him till lunch. After the interval Lynch and Yates played well together until 26 appeared, when the latter was bowled by Barlow. Dewes made the game lively for a minute or two, but was oaught by Shaw when 36 was telegraphed. Buns then came slowly. Lynch, after a good innings, was clean bowled by Barlow, his 19 being the top score of the day and the best cricket displayed. Cameron went in at 63, and off his first ball from Barlow made the hit of the day, a clean drive to the off for four. Isaacs and he together kept up the batting for close on an hour, both playing well. Sing succumbed to Shaw for 13, every one of whiohhe deserved. Donovan made 10; and Isaacs was not oat for 12 when the innings closed shortly before 6 o'clock. Lynch, Yates, Cameron, Isaacs, King, and Donovan made double figures. Towards the close of the day the fielding of the Englishmen became loose, and two ohanceß were refused. Barlow Becured 8 wickets, and Shaw 12. Auckland has made top soore of the Colony. Mumford, Bobinson, and W. F. Buckland made a poor stand, being unfortunate in their batting. Score and bowling analysis:—
