The river and canal dues yielded by the internal navigation of France in 1878 amounted to 4,273,303 f, which was a diminution on the receipts of 1877 by 128,984 f. Ihe amount of merchandise carried by the rirer and canal navigation was 1,787,403,141 kilombtric-tons in 1878, while in 1877 is was 1,804,000,000. The whole system of river and canal navigation has been developed within the last six or seven years at the rate of increase of 14 er cent. ’
