union bowing; cups. This Club has ’ made rapid strides of late. A few years ago it was at a very low ebb, but each season since then it has been fast working itself to the front; owing to the exertions made by the managing Committee, and it now has a membership of about 190, and a fine fleet of boats, with all the latest improvements. The present season has been a very successful one so far. More than 60 members have been elected, and the. Club fully expects to carry off some of the good things at the forthcoming regattas. Crews have for some time been in practice for.. the Hoathcote Eegatta, and they are much indebted to their Commodore, Mr H. Thomson, who has been most assiduous in hie attention and coaching of the different crews engaged. Underneath will be found full particulars of those competing. It will be observed that the champion crew appears a very hghtone, but as the men ore well known to possess stamina and pluck, there is no doubt, but they will renders good account of themselves. A meeting of this Committee was held at ■the Borough Council Chamber, on Friday evening } present—Messrs Moore (in the chair), Batch, Wearing, Pearce, Berhays, Patman, Thorne, Clark, and 0. E. Dudley (Hon Sec and Treasurer). A letter was. read from' Mr F. Back, General Manager of Railways) stating that hosts actually competing at the regatta would be carried to and from Eaiapoi free of ebst. Offers to provide a band on the regatta day were received from the local brass band ana from the Railway Band. After some little discussion, it was resolved that the matter of engaging a hand be deferred till next meeting, the Secretary to get a more definite offer from the local band by r.hat date. The Secretary pointed.out that as Mr J. L. Wilson had declined to act as Secretary, his name did not appear on the Committee. It was unanimously resolved—“ That Mr J. L. Wilson be a member of the Committee, also that the Secretary -be instructed to pay him the balance due to him lor the last year out of the first monies received." : Those present expressed their sense of the .energetic way In which Mr Wilson had always acted in connection with local matters Of any kind, and hoped he would allow himself to , be put on the Committee; It was resolved—“ That theSeoretaiy write, to the Mayor, and) ask him ,to proclaim the day. of the' regatta a half holiday.** “ That the meeting adjourn-' till 8 p.nn on Thursday next, when all members of the Committee having subscription lists are requested to bring them in, so that the ; financial position of the Committee may be accurately arrived at.” The meeting then adjourned.
