NATIVE AFFAIRS.
[BT TBLEGBAPH.J £pEOH OUB SPECIAL COBEKSPONDENT.] OKATO, Mabch 20. Mr Bryce arrived at Werekino last night, -and left this morning for Opunake with Colonel Boborts, where they are to meet the Premier. The report that Kemp is at Parihaka is not -confirmed. Mr Bryce discredits it. Ilearn - from the Native Minister that Mr Williams was not authorised to hold any official conversation with To Whiti, but, on the contrary, was cautioned against it. It is reported that ’Te Whiti said to Mr Williams something to ■the following effect; “You are paid by the Government. Well, he content with your .sixpence; don’t interfere with what you know .nothing about.” Paymaster Hempton arrived to-day, to pay ■the unemployed.' The reports of all the -officers under whom they have worked is that •they have done their duty cheerfully and well. The unemployed recently sent to Stratford -are to be moved to Opunake. The survey of the roads is ‘progressing satisfactorily without opposition, Motu’s people only begging that it may not he carried throngh their cultivation, requests which Mr . Hursthouee, the engineer in charge, takes pains to comply with.
