' It unfortunately happens that, notwitstanding the efforts made by Mr H. Thomson, there will be no official holiday. When his application reached Wellington, His Excellency the Governor and' the Premier were both absent; and there was thus,a fatal delay, so far as the closing of the Banks is concerned. It is hoped, however, in con-; .sequence of the high, degree of,popularity Which in former years has attached to the Heathcote Regatta, that at any rate the majority of the merchants arid traders will close their places of business for the day. The various crews engaged will, be ’taken: down by private conveyance, and for the con-' venienoe of the" public tho ’busses will no; doubt run at frequent intervals,. Tho Committee is, as on previous occasions, preparing' a very complete programme, and the- erds will of course be obtainable' afc the gathering'place., - 1
