CATHEDRAL GUILD.

TO THE BDITOB. Sib, —"Will you allow me, a complete stranger in Christchurch, to make a few remarks re tbe mnsio performed in St. Michael’s schoolroom on Thursday evening last. 1. Why is not more prominence given to this musical performance in the reports of the meeting of the Cathedral Guild ? i I ask this question because either your people here must be exceptionally perfect' in musical performances, or else exceptionally dull as to good music well rendered. For many a long day I have not heard Cherubini’s “Aye Maria.” 8 o well rendered by an amateur as it was by the lady who rang it on the occasion referred to. Of the performance of the gentleman who sang “In Native Worth,” I can only say that if he was the same who was to "have sung “From Mighty Kings,” the loss to the audience was not inconsiderable. You will allow me to express my opinion that the general excellence of the performance was such that, in my opinion, it deserved more notice than it, received, though possibly in thus writing I may be saying something against some rule of the Guild. * 2. In getting up the series of concerts for the- organ fund would it not be desirable to have things a little more prepared, so as to avoid that awkward and uncomfortable blank whioh is so painful to the audience between the performances of one number and another ? This lack of promptness in the order of the different numbers on the programme was painfully evident last night, and In a concert for whioh people pay for admission would be a serious blot, or rather preventative of attendance op the part of an ordinary audience. . . • These remarks ore written with the best wishes for the success of your Cathedral by EROS. Christchurch, March 12.
