We direct attention to our customary summary of bank returns for the quarter ended March 31 last, and which display, at a glance, the banking statistics of Victoria, Sew South Wales, New Zealand, Sout h Australia, Queens* land, and Tasmania separately and as a whole. At this juncture in banking affairs they possess especial interest. The note circulation of the banks in the six CiUm u X'l, too.Sjl, as against £4,335,728 three months ago. Victoria and New South Wales show a decrease, and in all other Colonies the circulation is larger. Deposits not bearinginterestare £15,807,753, SiS against £15,240,100 at December 31; fixed deposits are £34.352,8(X), as against £34,101,838; total deposits, £-31,811,007, against £31,308,038, a growth in the quarter of £502,000. The respective Colonies compare as follows; —

The increase occurs in N ictona, >ew South Wales, South Australia, and Tasmania. In Now Zealand and Queensland they hate fallen off. The advances o! the Banks have slightly declined, being £65,986,893. as against, in the quarter previous £(>(>,395,38“, a contraction of £-109,034.
