CANTERBURY SUNDAY SCHOOL UNION.
T 1 e annual general meeting was held in the pongregational Schoolroom, Manchester streeAbout 150 sat down to a good tea, and afterwards a public meeting was held. The President of the Union, Mr E. Connal occn lied the chair. A: ter a hymn had been sung, the Bey. E. Wal :er (Congregationalist) offered up prayer. T 1 e Secretary, Mr H. Peake, then read the annr al report for 1878, which showed that two chools had joined the Union daring the year making a total of 56, consisting as follows Wesleyan, 16; Presbyterian, 13 j Uni 1 ed Free Methodist, 10; Congregation, 6; Baptist, 4; Primitive Methodist, 3; Chr; itian Brethren, 3; Episcopalian, 1. The sales at the Union’s Depfit show a large men ase oyer former years. The receip's for the past year from this sour ie alone amounts to £235. The circula ion of magazines has likewise largely increa ed, the issues of 1878 haying a total of 33,4 K), being an increase of about 7000 over the lumber issued in 1877. T. .0 Treasurer, Mr H. Waters, presented the inancial report, which showed the Union to h in a very flourishing condition. T e reports as read were adopted. T 1 e election of officers for the ensuing year then took place, and resulted as follows: Pres dent, Mr E. Connal; Vice-Presidents, Mes rs Patton, Lambert, Booth, Parkes, Stap es, Toiler; Minute Secretary, Mr H. Peal e; Corresponding Secretary, Mr Higgins; Trac e Secretary and. Treasurer, Mr H. Waters} Sub- Freasurer, Mr J. Turner. A [dresses were delivered by the Retfs W. Morey and E. Walker, the President elect, Mr. I. C. Newton, 8.A., and Mr H. Waters. TI e meeting then closed.
