MR MONTGOMERY ON ELECTIVE GOVERNORS.
TO THB BDITOB OB THB LYTTELTON TIMEO, Sib,— ln your paper lam reported to have said, when speaking on the subject of electing the Governor, that “ I believe, and the people believe, that the question is raised with the design to taks them away from the true path of reform which they should follow.” In justice to Mr Stout—and permit mo to say, to myself—l wish to state that it never entered my thoughts to suppose he could entertain such a design for a moment. I knew he had written an article on the expediency of Governors being elected more than a year ago, long before the last session of the Assembly. I am, &0., W. MONTGOMERY. Christchurch, March; 8,1879.
