EYRETON SCHOOL ANNUAL TREAT.
The annual treat for the scholars attending (his school was held on Thursday last in a paddock at Eyreton, kindly placed at the disposal of the Committee by Mr E. Clothier. About 70 children, accompanied by their friends, numbering quite 200, were present. The day was spent in all sorts of games and amusements, winding up with an al fresco tea. The school had been examined on the Monday previously by Mr H. E. Goodeve, of Flaxton, and the prizes were distributed to the suceasful competitors by Mr G. Bailey in the absence of the Commissioner, Captain Bow, who was unfortunately compelled to leave early in the afternoon, v The prize list is as follows: Standard Y.—G. Bailey. Standard IY.—Sarah Laveiy, 1> Mary Batters, 2 j Elizabeth Chapman, 3 > Emily Butters, 4. Standard lll.—Ernest Pairweather, 1; Frank Yincent, 2; R. Bailey, 3; Lucy Martin, 4.
Standard lI.—G. Creamer, 1; Phillip Batters, 2; R. Driscoll, 3. Standard I,—W. Murphy, 1; May Vincent, 2. Lower Standard I.—Lucy Denton, 1; Geo. Spriggs, 2; John Giles, 3; Emma Bailer, 4; Obed Giles and Edward Cherry (equal), 5.
All the Infants were rewarded with a prize each. Special prizes given by the Commissioner—for regular attendance during the past year—were awarded to Kate Butters, Ernest Fairweather and Arthur Fairweather.
In the evening the school was cleared, and dancing kept up with great spirit by the parents and friends of the scholars till the small hours. About £l2 bad been oolleoted in the district towards the prizes and treat. Messrs G. Bailey, Chilton, and Batters contributed greatly to the success of (he whole affair by their assistance. Liberal contributions of edibles were provided by nearly every resident in the district.
