inspector's eepoet. The following was read and considered clause by clause: — “ 1- I beg to report that the side channel of the south side of the South town belt has been cleared out; -it can now plainly bo seen that in order to prevent a continuance of the nuisance arising from house drainage flowing into the channel that such drainage must be absolutely prohibited j a sufficient outlet from the channel must be provided. '* 2. Four cases of typhoid fever having been reported from Woolston,. I have inspected these, and find the common privy cesspool to be in general use in that locality. The side channel on Cemetery road has recently been cleaned out; it is liable, however, to be continually in bad condition, there being insufficient fall to its outlet into the river Heathcote. On this road I discovered a case of typhoid fever that had not been reported. I at once made the circumstance known to the medical officer.

“3. I beg to report under clause 58 of the Act a nuisance on premises Owned by Mr H. Knowles, _ Harper street, Sydenham, arising trom drainage soaking under houses close by which it flows. An impemous surface dram to connect with the side channel appears to be the present remedy for this nuisance, but, before specifying particularly, it will be necessary to confer with the Sydenham Borough Council, a bye-law haring recently been passed which places some restriction upon drainage into the side channels within the Borough. A nuisance of a similar description that existed on premises in Philipstown has been abated by the construction of a sink in concrete and a Burface channel in brick and cement. 4. The _ work of scavenging within the borough of Sydenham has been delayed owing to no tender having been sent in at/r e time appointed. / “5. In accordance with instruct^ B . I served a notice on Mr Illedge to dir** n tinue tne business of a fellmonger, com?® on by him in Smart’s road, was at once noted upon. f. “ WIPMAM psiBOB, . “ Chief Nuisances.” ; Gn clause I being oopria&red the Chairman stated that temporal Arrangements wore likely to be made. / ; ' r Cn- clause 2 boujo uiioussiOn occurred as to the non-repbrting'of the case of typhoid fever The feeling of- the Board was very decided that all perswu *ho failed to report 'should be prosecutvd aoder the proyisions of the Act The other clauses were considered and the whole wgwfc was adopted.
