The total reserve in bullion and notes is £13,927,600. Feb. 7. The Marquis of Harrington,. leader of the Opposition, in a speech at Liverpool, said the verdict of the country on the foreign policy of the Government would be the principal question for the next general election. A skirmish took place, on Jan. 12 between the British troops and the Zulus. The British loss was trifling. The Zulus are retreating to the interior. Feb, 8. The Marquis of Hartington, at Liverpool yesterday, explained that the programme of the Liberal party was the extension of the franchise in counties, to reorganise seats, the reform question, local government, religious equality, and a large redaction of taxes.
