SYDENHAM BOROUGH COUNCIL.

TO THB EDITOE OV THE ITTTEX.TOE TIMES, Sib, —On reading the report in to-day’s issue of the Timet respecting the proceedings of the Sydenham Borough Council, I have but one regret, and that is that, thoughr of the proud name of Robinson, I cannot, owing to the insufficiency of the dirty money I possess, supply the missing link in the Borough Council. For, had 1 been able to attend, much valuable time would not have been frittered away in vaporous and unmeaning talk; I could have seconded Mr Brown, and soothed Mr Jones’ troubled feelings. But, as matters now stand, nothing is now completed in that “ Model Borough,” for the order of the day seems to be hut endless marching and countermarching. The moat vital question of the day, it seems, is, to use a'Councillor’s expression, “ shelved.”- I refer to the question of water supply; nnd,\ to give i Jny humble opinion, tins subject ought to rank first and foremost in tho Council’s deliberations. Are wo to see our houses and possessions so often totally destroyed by fire when the Deluge and Dreadnaught, always ready and sinarlly on the spot, are, alas! hopelessly inactive, and notwithstanding the gallant bravery of our neighbours’ plucky firemen, much properly is thus heedlessly wasted; and if this state of things is to continue much longer wo shall find that no Com piny will take the risk of an insurance this side tho South belt. Then, again, the Sanitary Committee; what are thhy doing? Are their labours so engaging amidst the closet pans and sewage question that they cannot extend their investigations to the state of the water supply for drinking purposes ? Docs the thought never enter their minds that there are but few besides themselves that can spend the money to obtain that most necessary requirement of health and well-being—pure fresh water? Surely so model a Borough, ought to see that the wants of their ratepayers are properly supplied in these two respects! We can find the way to our modest homes without having to pay for high-sounding names to our roads —streets they are called—to show us our route. And, indeed, we have as yet no gas to illumine these illustrious names were they already fixed up. I appal to your powerful columns, trusting that the dust may be wiped of the water supply question, and the same taken from its shelf and once more brought forward for the consideration of, and may we hope settlement by, our model Borough Councillors. —I am, &c., THB “MISSING ROBINSON.” Sydenham, Feb. 4.
