CRICKET.

LORD HARRIS’ ELEVEN v. NEW SOUTH WALES. [By Telegraph.] [TIMES' SPECIAL WIRE.] SYDNEY, Jan. 29. The principal interest of the week has centred in the cricket match between the English team reinforced by Mr F. Penn, and Eleven of New South Wales. The Englishmen were regarded as weak, but the game became very open when it was known that Spofforth could not play through an accident. Some dissatisfaction existed at Coates, the left-handed bowler, being substituted for Powell in Spofforth’s place, and at the omission of Gregory. However, Coates strengthened the bowling. The first innings was very even. C. Bannerman played a ball on to Me pad, and thence into his wicket, without scoring. In the second innings he got Ms hand split between the fourth and fifth finger in stopping magnificently, at midwicket, a desperately hard hit ball. Tindall, Garrett, pad Allen were all more or less crippled, and Evans suffering from a cold. The Colonial prospects were rather weak with 225 to get, but they did it. The scores were:— LORD HAKEI3’ ELEVEN. First Second Innings. Innings. Ulyett 51 20 A, F. Lucas 7 15 A. J. Webbe 1 27 A. N. Hornby 12 20 Lord Harris 50 22 F. Penn 56 18 Emmett 9 15 V. Boyle 13 29 C.
