CRICKET.

[By Bohemian.] I understand the eleven will be chosen this week to do battle against Otago. The match takes place oh the Christchurch ground on Feb: 10, .11, and 12, Otago will he very strong this year; in fact, f the coming team will bo the strongest ever sent out of that Province. The sister Province has been actively recruiting this season, Vernon, Douglas, Andrews, Clark, and Spring, are almost certain of getting! away ’now that runway communication shortens the, trip so considerably, The former is a sohoofellow of the brothers Leach, and a good bat. . Douglas has played in intercolonial matches with Victoriaand Tasmania, but only took up the widow in earnest this season. Andrews isspoken of as being good, while, the last have improved veiy much. The remainder of the team wi" consist mostly of old faces. Our visitors should hot be the same disadvantage as formerly, aa l notice /most of the matches a-enow played on the Caledonian Ground, a faster and* better; wicket than the Oval, which is at/present in A disgraceful state. My opinion is that whoever wins, the match will this year result in a good contest, and I should advise our players especially those who have returned from the Victorian" perfect” wickets to practise as much as possible. With reference to bnr own team it is yet too early to say anything ; but at any rate it will be a team that will require a lot to thrash. NORTH r, SOUTH.

This match was commenced on Saturday, but the rain put a step to the play at half-past 4. South took first innings, and commenced with Ollivier and Wilson. Neither stopped long. Secretan and W.'Erith got together, and played splendidly, especially the former, whose cutting and off-driving was a treat to witness. After these two were disposed of wickets fell fast, no one else getting into double figures. Neilspn and Skelton had A and 2 not oiit to their credit, when the rain put a stop to the play. Corfe bowled very well, getting five wickets for 22 runs.; - Ashby and C. Frith did not seem at home with the ball after their late shaking np. • The following is-the score : SOUTH, First Innings. A.
