Feb. 2. About 3 a.m. to-day a collision occurred off Ohau Point, between the steamer Go-ahead, from Wanganui to Wellington, and the steamer Huia, from Wellington to Wabganui. The Go-ahead had her bulwarks, port bow, and covering board smashed. The Huia went om and it is not known what damage she sustained. OAMABU, Feb. I. The Customs* Bevenue received at Oamara for the month of January was £l7ll 11s, as against £1145 6s Bd, for the corresponding month of last year. The schooner Clyde, washed ashore at Tamutu, left Oamaru yesterday morning, with a cargo of produce for Auckland. She had on board, besides her cargo of produce, Captain Bishop, six men, and Mr John Bennett, a passenger. She was owned by Mr Frank Guy, of Sydney. DUNEDIN, Feb. 1. A telegram just received from 1 Gore states that Mr Conyers passed a restless night. His condition is unaltered. He is very drowsy, and conscious only at intervals. The Otago Daily Times has an article today denouncing sensational preachers. It says “ Can anyone point to any lives reformed or permanent good effected by Dr Somerville’s visit, and now we are asked to listen to another and far inferior man of the same stamp. We regard the tendencies of this kind of sensationalism as pernicious, both in the interests of religion and of morality. It will leave many an ardent young man like a candle prematurely burned down into the socket, and disgust so many more that Hr Bright’s followers are likely largely to increase their numbers.’’

A fire broke out in the wooden portion of the Hospital yesterday evening, about seven o’clock, but was observed before much damage was done, and extinguished by a few buckets of water.

Several new buildings of a highly imposing character are nearly completed in this city. The Royal Exchange Hotel, opposite the Bailway Station, will be the tallest building of the kind in New Zealand. Jones’ Hotel in Princes street, Just on the eve of completion, has the handsomest front of any building in Dunedin. Near the Bailway Station a whole block of new structures are going up, including the Volunteer Drill Shed, the Daily Times office, and a substantial, though excessively plain, suite of - warerooms, erected by Mr Donald Held, late Minister of Lands. Great interest is being taken in the Harbour Board election. Four candidates have been nominated for the two seats for Invercargill Yesterday two candidates were nominated for one seat in the suburban municipality of Southland. The Times complains of the delays to merchants of the goods transit on the railway, and blames the Dunedin station. The travelling post-office attached to the express is much appreciated.
