ENLARGEMENT OF THE LYTTELTON TIMES. THE history of, the Lyttelton Time* is a curiously exact counterpart of the history of the district it represents.- Commencing fromvery small beginnings, the rapid and continuous growth, of Canterbury can be traced almost ex* actlyby the repeated enlargements of Oie Journal whioh owes its birth to the founders of the Province. As population and wealth grew in the district, the Lyttelton Time* kept pace with that growth; but the exceptionally rapid increase of settlement daring the past .two years has almost' outpaced the- efforts of the Proprietors. In spite of the last and greatest enlargement, Want of space has repeatedly been pleaded as an excuse for the omission, curtailment, or postponement of important news, interesting reports, or valuable correspondence. To obviate this difficulty, and do justice to the wants of a public that has always liberally supported their Journal, the Proprietors intend from this day to permanently enlarge the Lyttelton Time* by making it a daily eight-paged paper—the largest morning journal in New Zealand. By this means they hope to fully satiafy;the requirements of their readers.. By avoiding the objectionable feature of supplements, room will henceforth be found in the body of the paper for all the advertisements whioh may be entrusted to its widely - circulated columns. Christchurch, Jan. 4,1879.
