CANTERBURY RIFLE ASSOCIATION.

The remaining event on the programme of the Association’s second quarterly contest was fired off yesterday morning. The competitors were on the ground early, and found the weather nearly as unfavourable for shooting as on the previous day, A strong sou’-wester blew across the range the whole time, with violent gusts at intervals, making it impossible for the marksmen to sight twice alike at the .same range. Considering these difficulties the'seoring was very fair. Mr Petersen’s Cup is this time credited to Sergeant Buckley, with a score of 61, and should he repeat his victory it will be handed over to him. Mr J. Cameron was very near landing the prize with 69 points, as there is already one win to his credit. The following are the scores made : Petersen and Co.’s Cup.—Value £2O. Conditions—4oo, 600, and 600 yards; seven shots at each range; any position. Cup to be won twice before becoming the absolute property of any competitor. Non-winners to receive a handicap of 6 points from previous winners. First prize, Cup and £2 ; second, £1; third, 10s.

It is the intention of the Association to give a number of valuable prizes at the termination of the fourth quarterly contest for the highest aggregate scores made. The following table wifi show how these scores stand up to date Quarterly Meetings.
