THE CANTERBURY ELEVEN IN VICTORIA.

[By Cable.] THE RICHMOND MATCH. CANTERBURY VICTORIOUS BY EIGHT WICKETS. [from OUB SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT.] MELBOURNE, Jan. 18. To-day, thanks to the good batting of W. Frith and the miserable bowling of the Melbourne men, Oanterbnry doubled the total of the previous day. Nearly everyone scored, and had it not been for the dubious decisions of the umpire, by which three men were given out leg before, the total would probably have been considerably increased. The youngfer Frith played a dashing innings, and hit the bowling about mercilessly. Richmond made a very poor show in the second innings. Their antagonists were on thqir mettle this time, and wicket followed wicket in quick succession. Monion again got into double figures, but his 25 was the only contribution of note on the aide. O. Frith bowled remarkably well, getting fire wickets for 16 runs. His brother obtained two for the same number, and Ashby three for 20. The fielding was extremely good,* and it will he seen that no less than six of the Richmond men were caught. Baker and Hartland went in to polish off the runs required, but the latter with liis usual luck, whs' dean ; bowled after threq, '/fir four overs. V Baker, JmweVer, aqd, with all but made the necessary number, when Ho was again given out leg before, making the fourth victirn'to-day. Canterbury had no difficulty, nevertheless, in winning the match by eight wickets. A third victory is thus placed to their credit, which makes the account balance. The last match will be played on Thursday at Hobart Town, whither the team depart on Tuesday.

Stevens and Conran, the not-outs, added a few more runs, and the former was then bowled by Beard. Conran played an excellent and hard-hitting innings, and was smartly caught by Jones in an endeavour to hit Beard out of the ground. Skelton bowled very well, and the remainder of the Eleven were quickly disposed of. Beard obtained four wickets for 55 runs, and Skelton four for 19. The Town made a much better show with the bat in their second innings than they did in their first. Secretan and E. Ootterill piled on rims pretty freely, and when H. Ootterill joined his brother a very long stand was made. The score was taken from 50 to 99, at which stage B. Ootterill was caught for 41 by Conran off Beaumont, Among his hits was a fine sto Square-leg. The elder brother advanced his total to 44, and was caught off Turner. The next few wickets added little, but Baker and Percival refused to be separated. They put on 62 runs between them before the stumps were drawn, and the score now stands at 187, with two wickets still to fall. The bowling was not at all up to the mark, in which respect both sides wore pretty equal The following is the score ;
