THE ALL-ENGLAND ELEVEN IN NEW ZEALAND.

[Br Tilegeaph, pbom oub Special CobbhsPONDBBT.] EIGHTH MATCH. ALL-ENGLAND T. INVEBOABGILL. INTHEOAEGILL, March 6. The match between the Ail England Eleren and Twenty-two of Invercargill, has oansed an unosual stir here. A large crowd around the railway station at noon betokened the arrival of the All England Eleven, who were received by a number of the local cricketers and conducted to their quarters at the Albion Hotel. Unfortunately, the weather during the morning was very wet, rendering necessary a consultation with Lillywhite as to whether the Eleren should play or not. Having made enquiries as to the nature of the ground, he decided to go with the Eleven to the field and have lunch, and afterwards determine whether it would be practicable to play; accordingly, after taking a couple of hours’ rest, which they much needed, having been travelling all night by special train and coach from Dunedin, the Eleren proceeded to the ground, where they were entertained at luncheon, bis Worship the Mayor, as President of the Club, occupying the Chair, supported on his right by Lillywhite, captain of the English Eleven, and on his left by Beade, captain of the Invercargill men. The Vicechair was occupied by E. W. Wade, Vice-President of the local club. The weather still holding fine, Wade and Bennett (of the English Eleven) umpires, proceeded to select a wicket. A good spot was found about the middle of the cricket ground, and the stumps were pitched in line with the northern and eastern corners of the enclosure. The captains tossed for place about 20 minutes to four, and the Englishmen losing, Beade decided to send them to the wickets, and Invercargill to the field. Flay began at 10 minutes to four. Jupp and HUI first went to the wickets, to the bowling of Howell, who clean bowled Hill the second ball. Two byes ware then obtained, and then Hayward went on to bowl, but Jupp only made 1 off that over. Jupp then drove one to long-oif for 2 which, with a wide, were all made off Howell’s over. Oharlwood sent the ball for a possible 1, but it was cleverly fielded; he then drove another for 1, and two others for nothing. In the following ever Oharlwood made 2 and two singles. Hayward bowled a maiden, Oharlwood, after the last ball, being given out leg before wicket; two for 11. Selby went in, Jupp facing the bowling. Nothing but a wide came of the two succeeding overs, but on the second ball of the next- Jupp gave a catch, which was well taken by John Morrison; three for 12. Ulyett now came out. The first ball given him was a wide, and in the next over another; but scoring was slow, the fielding being particularly good. John Wesney took Howell’s place, and he and Hayward both bowled maidens. Ulyett then .made a grand out and tried to run two, but the ball was returned too quickly for him by Levy, and he lost his bails; four for 19. Greenwood was now sent in, but had nothing to do in bis first over, a maiden by Hayward. In the next Greenwood cleverly stole a run. The game was then stopped for a spell through a slight shower. On resuming Selby and Greenwood raised the score by fine play, including two or three 4’e apiece for balls driven out of the ground; the former had scored 27, and the latter 41 by the time the stumps were drawn.
