ROAD BOARDS.

BIOOARTON. The ordinary meeting of the Board was held on Monday, at the office of the Board, Upper Bioonrton; all the members were present, Mr H. J. Hall in the Ohair.—A letter was read from the Olerk to the Selwyn County Council, asking for a return of the rateable property in the district for the year ending March 31, 1876; also, of the total amount of general rates received for the same period.—The Clerk stated that he had furnished the return on the same day.—A letter was received from H. Wise and Co, Dunedin, requesting payment of account for directory. The Clerk stated that he held a receipt for the amount. —A letter was read from the Drainage Board, enclosing copy of clause 76 of the “Public Health Act, 1876,"and asking the Board to report any cases which may come under their notice, in reference to the trades therein mentioned.—A circular was received from the Hon D. Pollen, enclosing two copies of the Public Health Act, and a proclamation from His Excellency the Governor in reference thereto ; also, printed forms of report to be filled up and forwarded to Central Board. —A letter was received from the Drainage Board, agreeing to the terms proposed for the collection of the Drainage rate.— A letter was received from the Secretary to the Treasury enclosing a cheque for £2OO 2s Id, being 5s in the £ on amount of rates collected.—A letter was received from Mr G. A. Buck, offering his services for the preparation of the voters’electoral roll under the Registration of Electors Act. The Board declined the offer, with thanks, considering the work to be the duty of their own officer.—The Surveyor’s report was read and considered.—lt was resolved to extend the time for the completion of Messrs Claridge and Taylor’s contracts

until March 81,—Messrs Boag and Deans were requested to examine the bank forming the eastern boundary of section 188, and decide as to its removal or otherwise.—A letter was read from the Engineer to the Drainage Board, asking if the Board would contribute onethird of the cost of the proposed Ricoarton drain, provided the contract included carting the soil to the road drain. The Board agreed to contribute the amount asked for.—The Clerk wae directed to write to the Avon Road Board, and ask if they would undertake the future maintenance of the Mill-race road, or allow this Board to take gravel for same tram their pits free of cost.—The Surveyor was directed to make inquiries as to the cost of a map of the district, on a scale of 10 chains to the inch, and report at next meeting.— The Board took into consideration the assessment of the district prepared in accordance with the new Rating Act, and after careful consideration it was resolved, “ That the Board recommend a reduction in certain suburban properties in the district, considering they are too high.”—The Treasurer submitted the accounts of the Board for the previous year, which were passed and ordered to be certified under the hand of the Chairman, in accordance with Clause 134 of the Road Ordinance.—Tenders were received for forming the Fendalltown and Waiaraupu Junction Road, and one accepted.—Accounts having been passed for payment, the Board adjourned. EYRBTON. The monthly meeting of this Board was held on Monday last; present—Messrs Wilson (chairman pro tern,), Chilton,and Bradley. Letters were read—From Messrs Austin and Kirk, enclosing price-list of drain pipes. From Mr W- Dudaon, requesting permission to put in pipes across Radden’s road. Granted; pipes not to exceed two inches in diameter.— From J. and H. Grimwood, offering to supply the Board with timber.—From Mr Buck, offering to prepare electoral roll. Offer declined, with thanks.—From Mr Widdowson, requesting the Board to allow him extra payment on account of additional work done in widening the formation of the Oxford and Ohoka road ; also, applying for an extension of time to complete the work. Resolved, “ That the extension of time be granted, and that the question of extra allowance stand over till the contract is finished.”—The Surveyor’s report was read and adopted. It was decided to carry out the following works : Building new bridge over Bangiora main-drain at Flaxton; also, for repairing the Eyre embankments damaged by the late flood,— The Surveyor was instructed to procure all the Acts affecting the Board, and have them bound in books for the use of the members.— Accounts, amounting to £lsl 13s 3d, were passed for payment, and the meeting terminated.
