Drummond Macpherson. THIS Company is formed to carryout a long and generally expressed desire to establish a Woollen Manufactory in Canterbury. The success of the Wool Mills in Nelson and Otago, and in Victoria and New South Wales, justify the present proposal as eminently practical, this province being (particularly well fitted for its successful development, wool being the staple production ,and the population all interested either directly or indirectly. The valuation of the whole of the Mosgiel Plant, Buildings, and Machinery, when taken over by the Company recently formed in Dunedin, was £14,500; but it is desirable, as is being done by that Company, to obtain a more complete plant, and it is estimated that a stun of £25,000 will be required to put everything in good working order. It is not, therefore, contemplated to call up more than half the Company’s nominal capital nntu its successful establishment, and until the demands of an increasing trade may require it. It will he necessary to import machinery and skilled labour, and for this purpose probably to send home an agent to select them. The present is a very favourable time to do this. Free passages can be obtained for the labourers, and very reasonable rates of freight can be arranged for the machinery. The Mills referred to as established in Australiaand New Zealand are now constantly employed have an increasing and profitable business, and in some coses cannot overtake the orders received. Great care, strict frugality, and good management will be aimed at by the Directors. With these secured, there is no question about the highly profitable nature of the undertaking. It is expected that within aoout 12 months the Company will be in a position to supply Tweeds, Blankets, Serges, Flannels, and Hosiery, made of New Zealand wool Prospectuses and forms of application for shares may be obtained at the office ol the undersigned, or at the Bank of New Zealand at Christchurch, or any of its agencies throughout the colony. 792 J.
