Sept. 12—Emu, ketch, for Lyttelton, with 19,000 ft timber. The schooner Belle Brandon, eleven days ®nt from Auckland for Dunedin, timber laden, put into Akaroa on the 10th inst., through stress of weather. The ketch Wanderer, which was cast ashore »t Timaru during the gale on the 27th ultimo, and sold a few days later by auction (being purchased by Mr Cain), was hauled up a few chains north of the Government flagstaff for the purpose of being put in repair previous to again being launched. Early, however, on Wednesday slip occurred in the clay bank stuff thrown out from the railway cutting) under which the ketch was lying, which had the effect of shoving her clean off the blocks into the sea. Attempts were then made to secure her by hawsers to the shore, but of no avail, for the fastenings soon gave, and the vessel drifted rapidly to the northward. In a few hours the ketch found a berth on the rocks about half-way between the flagstaff and Whales Creek, where she was quickly pounded up by the sea. At six in the evening the hapless little craft was divided right in two. Yesterday morning the Mgh tide had floated the one half and stranded it under the railway bridge in XeCren’s gully. —Timaru Herald, Sept. 12.
