Balance of estimated land revenue ... 146,186 10 0 , Local revenue... 2,180 0 0 £199,682 3 1 Less the following charges—(a) Surveys, schedules ... 3225 0 0 (5) Local charges, schedule A ... 6316 12 6 (c) Departmental charges ... 6500 0 0 (d) Loan charges 14,000 0 0 Balance available for appropriation for buildings and public works £169,540 10 7 Estimated amount to which the district south of the Bangitata is entitled under Act of the General Assembly—--25 per cent of estimated land sales ...£48,395 10 0 Actual receipts, eight months £143,582 0 o Estimated receipts, four months ... 50,000 0 0 £193,582 0 0 The Council is of opinion that it is desirable in future appropriation of the revenue arising within the province that the following principle should be adopted in the apportionment of the funds at its disposal as between the two districts of the province to the north and south of the river Bangitata : (1) That the revenue arising within the district to the south of the Bangitata should be appropriated to that district, less the following charges—(a) Local charges (payable out of the proceeds of the sale of - waste lands) vi z., for surveys, immigration, education, buildings, and public works within the district. (5) Local charges on the ordinary revenue, viz., actual payments for services within the district, such as gaols, hospitals, charitable aid, harbour, sheep inspection, ferries, and miscellaneous charges. (c) A share of the provincial departmental charges of the whole province distributable on the basis of population. (d) A proportion of the charges on the loans of the province to the amount of £14,000 a year for the current financial year.
