It was resolved—“ That the clerk prepare a ratepayers’list, in accordance with clause 31 of the Roads Ordinance, and lay it be* fore the Board at next meeting. The clerk was instructed to reply to a letter which had been received from Mr Birch. ~ A letter was read from Messrs J. and J. Thompson, offering to build a bridge near Mr D. Todd’s, at the r own cost, provided the Board s gave them a right to cut flax on the roads within a radius of 1| miles from the bridge. It was resolved that the offer of Messrs J. and J. Thompson be accepted, and that they be allowed to cat flax on the terms named in their letter. Another letter was read from the same subscribers, offering to contribute the sum of £ls towards the cost of forming and metalling the North Brook Road. It was resolved that the road be formed 25 feet wide as far as Mrs Pentecost’s ; the work to be commenced when the contributions promised are paid to the clerk, and the money thus received to be expended upon metalling it. The application of Mr Wild, of the Masonic Hotel, for the Board’s permission to put in a culvert opposite hfs house, was granted, conditionally upon the culvert being one plank wide and two planks deep. The following tenders were accepted for the undermentioned works : —For making the main-drain embankment, Mullcock and Sealey, £ls; staking and wattling same, Mullcock and Sealey, £6 ; another tender was accepted from the same parties for repairing the embankment in different places, for £7; making a drain between Wilson and Kilgour’s land, Corrigan, Marten, and Co., at 4s 6d per chain; drain alongside Revell’s Road, A. Brundle, at 2s 3d per chain; clearing Harrison’s Creek, W. Norrie, at 5s per chain; repairing Church Bush Bridge, W. Belton, £5. It wag resolved—“ That tenders be invited for metalling part of the Oxford Road, also for patting in two culverts on Boys’ Direct Road.” The Board agreed to the application of Messrs T. Wilson, Cousins, and others, requesting that a special rate might be levied for the purpose of draining the swamp near their property, and the Clerk was instructed to take the necessary steps forthwith. In compliance with the request of Mr Staunton, the Board decided upon clearing the watercress from a drain alongside the Eaiapoi and Ashley Road. accounts amounting to £65 12s 8d were passed for payment, and the meeting adjourned.
