MAGISTRATES’ COURT.
LYTTELTON. Friday, May 7. (Before W. Donald, Esq., R.M., J. S. Willcox, Esq., Mayor, and M. P. Moddart, Esq.) Transfer of License. —The transfer of license of the Queen’s Hotel from Mr B. T. White Parsons to Charles Littlecott, was granted. Wilful Disobedience of Obders and Refusal of Duty. —Charles Johnstone, seaman on board the barque Tell, was brought up on remand, charged with this offence. Air Nalder for prosecution. Fred. Phillips, steward and cook, stated he heard the accused refuse to do duty, and also threaten the mate on two occasions. The accused called two seamen *nd the second mate. 'These witnesses stated they were not in the accused’s watch, the latter witness said he heard the accused refuse to pump the vessel. The accused made a lons statement in defence. The charge of wilful disobedience was dismissed, and the accused was sentenced to three weeks’ imprisonment, with hard labour. CIVIL CASE. Moreland v. Chapman. —Claim £33 Bs. Mr Nalder for plaintiff. After hearing evidence the Bench gave judgment for £l,paid into Court.
