OHRISTOHUItOH. Wkdhbsdat, Jan. 22, (Boforo 0,0. Bowen. Esq., R.M.) Henry Clarondon was chargjdwith having boon drunk and disorderly-in tho neighbourhood of tho Thoatro, The offonco having boon provod, tho prisoner was fined 20s, his Worship romarking that such conduot could not ho tolerated. CIVIL CASE. . Keek v. SiBWABi.-This was a claim for tho value of a heifer, tho property of tho plaintiff, which had boon orronoously transferred to tho defondant in the salo of some other cattlo. Tho plaintiff also chimed a calf, tho produce of tho same animal. Tho defondant was callod, and statorl that as thero had been so much misunderstanding about the ownership of tho heifer, the case had beon brought before his Worship in order to obtain his decision. Ho believed that tho animal had been transferred to him in error, and when Kerrclaimed it, ho (defendant) auth'oiised his manager to pay tho amount, but the latter said that it was an unjust claim, and advised him to resist it, W. Gunnion, Manager to Mr Stewart, at Bottle Lake, stated that the cattle wero delivered to him. He produced a list'of the stock transferred. When Kerr claimed tho heifer, he could not give him anyaccount of the colour or marks. His Worship ruled that the heifer first named belonged to Kerr, but it Was owing to his own caielessness that he had.not acquired possession of it at first. Judgment would be given for plaintiff for £lO, being the averago price at which the cattle were sold.
_ His Worship stated that he could not tako cognizance of: oases under the "Extended Jurisdicdietiou Act" until the proclamation authorising him to do so had been'received. The cases in the neighbourhood of Christchurch would be adjourned from week to week, aud those from a distance :until February 6.
