THE AGRICULTURAL EXPORT COMPANY.
TO THB EDITOR OP THE LTTTELTOX TIMES Sir,—l hare no desire to enter into print, but I cannot allow the erroneous statement made by your reporter to pas! unnoticad respecting the Terapletou grain report meeting of the 18th inst. I deny that either myself or Mr Parish pre Yen ted any person from addressing the meeting. Quite the contrary, for on sereral occasions I desired to know if any person were disposed to speak. Several members of the meeting are prepared to endorse this statement. I refer to the Chairman, to say if either Mr Parish or myself were at any time out of order, or acted disrespectfully towards the chair or the meeting. It is quite correct to say that we objected to sundry matters, acting under the belief that tliß meeting bad been called for the purpose of obtaining inform ition upon the subject for which it had been advertised. And I see no reason why we should believe everything we heard to be infallible, unless there were some positive proof for it, particulurly when the feeling of the meeting *ss with us. It is one tliitii} for tlioae who niay be desirous of lucrative benefits or appoint* ments, and quite a different thing for the community who are to provide the money to carry out the undertaking. It is to be hoped that persons will not take advantage of their position, but will know their place and dut)> and not pass strictures without shewing the reason. In (his ease your reporter made 1»» remarks, and gave no ri-pnrt of the meeting. Not so with the reporter to the Frcty who slightly lifted the screen. Your obedient servant, john j. McClelland. Cliristchurcli, Sept. 1867. [We are satisfied tl>:ii tlin report referred to by our correspond) ul was substantial/ correct. Ed. L.T]
